Review of North Adams, Massachusetts

Gorgeous affordable small city with culture
Star Rating - 7/19/2019
I have lived in and around North Adams Ma (NAMA) my entire life. This small city is like the Phoenix rising out of the ashes. The city government has worked with local businesses, artists and investors to turn this former mill town turned ghost town into a tourist destination for music and art lovers. To name a few attractions... MCLA. MassMoca and their music events like Wilco, the Steeple Cats baseball, so many wonderful hiking trails like the Appalachian trail, the Cascades waterfall trail, Natural Bridge, The Mohawk Trail (you MUST check out The Wigwam!!) etc. The absolutely beautiful bicycle trail from Pittsfield to Adams is supposed to be extended through North Adams to Williamstown in the near future. The cost of living and average homes are very reasonable. The locals here are always baffled by the crime statistics. It's a very safe area. I'm an older woman who feels perfectly comfortable walking through the city after dark. There has been a rise in drugs and home break ins, but unfortunately that is happening everywhere. The public grammar schools are in need of improvement. BART (Berkshire Arts and Technology) public charter school takes applications from North Adams, and surrounding towns. Excellent school 5th to 12th. McCann technical school is also excellent (9-12). The scenery in Berkshire county is unbeatable in all 4 seasons. If you are unskilled labor, jobs are available... but not for great wages. But, the cost of living is low.
